Pincushions

Here are Aniza’s version of Pear Pincushions. Heather Bailey’s are far more prettier but I’m a novice so I am so glad that my pincushions turned out just nice. I just played around with scraps of fabrics that I find in my finishing kit basket. Have not dive into my cotton prints fat quarter yet.

An Eight-cornered Pinpillow

or more popularly known among stitchers as biscornus. This style of finishing became popular after the introduction by Catherine Strickler of Indigo Rose. Hanging my head in shame, I have still not yet finish the stitching of Catherine’s class piece ” Buttons, Beads and Bows”. However I have done a number of pinpillow as biscornus ;-) as any square shape of designs are easily finished this way. Also I have to say that biscornus finishing is the most neat finishing I’m able to handle. Kind of “stress-free” finishing! If I use a 32ct fabric or higher, I just do the backstitching over four threads thus I’m able to do it up quicker.

This time around, I have done the stitching quite some time ago, a freebie from Indigo Rose : Spring Garden stitched on 32ct White Lugana. The threads are NPI Silks for the green and Caron Waterlilies Parfait. I have always enjoy working on most of Catherine Strickler’s design even  her freebies because she cleverly includes specialty stitches

Stitcher’s Lottery

shot pincushionI really like the freebie from Midsummer Night Designs titled Sweet as a Flower ever since I saw it on Deborah’s blog. I thought this particular design suits my entry piece for Becky’s Stitcher’s Lottery.

I have a cut of very nice piece of 32ct Light Sand Lugana and started to pull out a few shades to suit the background fabric. In the end I settled down with 2 shades my own handyed threads and Solitude Green from OWS Linen thread.

I hope the lucky stitcher who wins the lottery will be pleased with my pincushion. I think there are about 18 of us…so all the best to each one of us…LOL.
Also my entry marks the end of my exchange commitments for the year 2007.

Little House Needlework: An Adaptation

I’ve been  away  from home for the past week.  I hardly made any effort to check my emails or read the forums.  Then  later  today I found out  that  my partner  has already received  my  package.

Here  was  what I  have made for her.  I wanted to make a stitcher’s  pocket  or most stitchers commonly call it “bourse”  in French and also a mattress pincushion.   As a result, I make it as a 2-in-1 stitcher’s  accessories. This time for Specific Designer  Exchange on SBEBB  was for  TerryP.  Both  the  fabric a 28 ct  Cashel and the threads are my own DIY  version of overdyes.

Although  I have  different  mailing  date for this exchange and the Quaker,  but  I stitched and finished this  mattress  pincushion earlier than the Quaker mattress pincushion.  I  could tell that  different technique gives  different finishing effect.  From now on, I will stick using PC#12 for backstitching  and  either a quilting thread or #80  tatting  thread for the whipstitch/ladder stitch.

Sweet!

I got my  Little House Needlework Exchange today. It was from Carol S. What a sweet surprise. I have always admire Carol’s work. To me she works very fast! So I’m considered so lucky to have her as a partner. Just look at the beauty she made for me….a mattress pincushion!!! Yay!!! It’s so pretty.  Along with the pincushion, Carol also included some goodies. Lovely!!  Thanks a million, Carol!!!

Quaker Pinpillow

Carol B have posted on Legacy Board to say she had recieved my Quaker Exchange. ( QQX14 ). This time I stitched on Lugana with my overdyed thread. I find that finishing effort using Lugana is lot easier for me though the fabric tend to fray more than linen. I used PC#12 for all the backstitching and whipstitch using quilting thread. Thus I’m really satisfied with the overall look. Over on Legacy, NancyK is running the next round ( QQ15 ) with Christmas theme. If you are Quaker fan and love exchanges, please join in. Sign ups will run through December 1st, and mailing will be January 5th.

Gifts from a stitching buddy!

Yasmin who happens to be an excellent finisher, not so long ago send me a wonderful  stitcher’s accessories which was a mattress pincushion and a scissors pouch. Any stitcher would be very delighted to receive gorgeous looking handstitched accessories in the mail…I did!!! Thank you so much, Min! I will treasure them forever…  :)

Quarterly Quaker 14th

I have took part in Quaker Quarterly Exchange over Legacy Board for several time. Here are what I have  recieved in the past from my previous partners. I have to say that I have a pretty nice Quaker Smalls collection.

This round I have received from Jenny in IL a pretty Halloween theme Quaker. Lovely finishing I must say as I’m not really good with beadings. Jenny have done is so pretty and glamourous looking pincushion. Obviously she really enjoy doing up the finishing. Thank you Jenny!

Laura’s Embroideries

I saw a prettily finished piece on Aprilblue’s blog quite sometime ago and fall in love with the alphabet theme and seeking Gigi’s great  help, I managed to get this chart from Craft-Corner  the designer behind the name Coeur de Lin which happened to arrived in September. I decided to stitch on Blush coloured linen with Redwood Waterlilies. I just love the colours! I’m thinking of finishing off as a stitcher’s pocket with some compartment on the inside. However I will not see this will be done so soon ;-)

The Sampler Gameboard

I believe I had taken some pictures of the latest stage of the sampler but I can’t seem to locate in which folder did I save the image files. So I did some spring cleaning on all the hardrives and pendrive and I found only one picture to share. At the moment here is what my sampler looks like. Still have some portion of the border need to be done and I’d like to substitute some of the motifs on these Gameboard for other DT’s  motifs later on.

Quaker Alphabets

I have forgotten to update about my partner Carol has recieved the pinkeep I’ve made for her out of The Workbasket Monthly Quaker for SBEBB Quaker Exchange. The theme was Alphabets and I choosed to stitch over one.

SBEBB Grateful Hearts Exchange

I send my partner, Terry a pinkeep of Indigo Rose’s Wildflower Heart which was featured on Caron. However I only stitched the inner square of the design thus making it a nice size for a pinkeep finishing. I was really glad to hear that Terry was a happy recipient.

In about a couple of weeks ago,I received a big package  from Carla in Peru. She took the time to learn about my preference in which she decided to make a needleroll by Shepherd’s Bush! Isn’t that sweet? Thank you, Carla…

I truly love the Folk Heart Roll.

and along in the package was an adorable handmade Peruvian doll and stitching goodies too!

The replacement

I took part in SBEBB Needleworkers Accessories Exchange and I have recieved a beautiful work done by Eva. However my package to my partner was lost.  This mattress pincushion was sent to Judith in The Netherlands as a replacement for the first one I send earlier which never surfaced. So I have to stitch up another one pretty fast and mailed it off to her. This design is by Barbara Jackson – Tristan Brooks Designs : An Elizabethan Pincushion.

Here was the first pincushion I stitched for Judith. A design extracted from The Drawn Thread : Prairie Garden stitched on 32ct Lambswool.

My final Mailart

I’m saying goodbye to mailart exchanges. Firstly I don’t really enjoy working with  sewing machine.  Maybe because mine isn’t the fancy one hehehehe…just a basic model. What a lame excuse, huh?

Secondly the anxiety to know it’s arrival. Lastly, I have accumulated quite a handsome number of mailarts already. Just waiting a couple more making it’s way to me.

Zalita called me earlier today that she recieved her mailart.  Thus here is my mailart for  Zalita who also recently was a 3rd prize winner in a mailart competition organised by Daisy Stitches
